As the country enters a crucial period in the fight against coronavirus, I wanted to let you know how the latest lockdown restrictions are affecting Places for People and how we are working hard to keep essential services running.

Emergency service for repairs

As part of our response to rising infections, we recently took the decision to stop all but emergency repairs in our customers’ homes. Reducing the number of properties we visit during the lockdown will lessen the risk of spreading new and more infectious strains of the virus, especially amongst our older and more vulnerable customers and colleagues.

Like many businesses we are also seeing more and more of our workforce affected by the virus, which means we have less operatives available than usual. We are postponing non-emergency appointments as we believe the focus of our available engineers and tradespeople should be on where they are needed most urgently.

We understand this will be very frustrating and disappointing for those expecting work to be carried out. As soon as restrictions are relaxed and more colleagues are available, we will return services to normal as quickly as possible. Any repairs that were previously logged will be rescheduled, and any planned improvement work may be delayed until later in the year. We will keep you informed of any changes we need to make.

Where possible work that can be carried out in open spaces such as landscaping, cleaning and surveying will continue. You will also still receive contact from our teams about your home and tenancy, but this will be done in contactless ways by telephone, text or email unless in an emergency. In line with Government requirements many of our teams are working from home, so call waiting times may be longer and some services may be delivered differently to usual.

Staying safe

The safety of everyone living and working in our places and homes remains our priority. If our teams do need to visit you in your home, please work with us and follow social distancing rules and any requests from our operatives. To reassure you we will make sure our operatives follow social distancing guidelines, wear the appropriate PPE and sanitise the areas they are working in before they leave.

Please also continue to follow the latest stay at home guidance during the lockdown to protect those living in your home and everyone around you.
